Edgren Eagles soar at the Greater Tokyo College Fair
Sixteen students from Robert D. Edgren Middle High School traveled ten hours by bus from Misawa to Tokyo to attend the Greater Tokyo College Fair on Sept. 11, 2025. With more than 150 U.S. and international institutions represented, the fair offered a rare and invaluable opportunity for Edgren students to explore post-secondary options in person. For students living in northern Japan, such access to a large-scale college fair is not only logistically challenging but also exceptionally uncommon, making this experience all the more meaningful.
The fair provided students with direct engagement and insight into universities they had previously researched online.
“I really loved how many schools there were at the fair, with one of my favorites being the University of British Columbia… talking to the people running the stand really helped me understand what I'm looking for in a school,” said Maxwell Peterson, a junior at Edgren.
Senior student CeCere Davis echoed this sentiment, describing her interaction with the University of Arizona representative as a turning point.
“Getting to speak to the representative at the college fair helped solidify that this was a school I am going to be applying to,” Davis said.
For many, the experience was not just informative, it was transformative.
“I never thought I would have an opportunity to do something like this… I am very thankful to Dr. Sledge for giving us a chance to visit the college fair.,” Senior Alessandro Nascimbei said.
This trip to Tokyo was more than a college fair, it was a gateway to possibility. For Edgren students, whose geographic location often limits access to such events, the journey underscored the importance of exposure and opportunity in shaping their educational futures.
